Can Value Creation be Taught?
I have three interrelated theses:
- Innovation is a discipline that should be taught in school
- Value creation should be taught in school as an intellectual discipline, academic subject and/or life skill
- We need to rethink, rebrand and reinvigorate the concepts of career and vocation. This should occur in schools. “Follow your passion” should not be the most meaningful career advice that students receive at graduation.
I’m trying to synthesize these ideas in a syllabus for a course called Designing an Innovation-Centered Career. You can take a look at the Google doc for that syllabus here. While I continue researching and working on it, I’m attending local EdTech events and gathering feedback from the people I meet there.
